Rosacea
About Rosacea
Rosacea is a common, chronic skin condition which predominantly affects the central face and most often presents between the age of 30 and 60 years. It typically has a relapsing and remitting course, with symptoms controlled by lifestyle measures, general skin care, medications, and procedural interventions.
Patients often report facial redness, flushing, skin sensitivity and acne-type lesions.
There are four types of rosacea:
Erythematotelangiectatic – characterised by transient recurrent redness (flushing) and broken capillaries
Papulopustular – characterised by red and pus-filled bumps
Ocular – patients often report grittiness of the eyes as well as redness and swelling of the eyelids
Rhinophyma – thickening of the sebaceous glands of the nose
Treatment of Rosacea
Alongside general skin care measures, there are various cream and tablet treatments available for rosacea.
Vascular laser treatment is very effective for treatment of background redness, flushing, and capillaries.
